PURPOSE:To prevent the soiling and damaging of a sheet material, enable sorting even in the case of a sheet material having images on both sides, and prevent the occurrence of trouble during conveyance by providing a pressing device for closely attaching both sides of the sheet material to a copying face at the time of image treating. CONSTITUTION:A sheet material holding device 20 holding a sheet material 1 is conveyed in the arrow E direction and, after being inverted, moved rightward and stopped in a defined processing position, and a sheet material pressing device 75 surely retains the (a) face of the sheet material 1 against the platen glass 80 of a processing face to carry out image processing. Then, by further inverting the sheet material 1, the sheet holding device 20 is moved in the E direction and, after carrying out positioning, equally the sheet material pressing device 75 is lowered to carry out the image processing on the (b) face. Thereby, the soiling and damaging of the sheet material 1 can be prevented, enabling sorting even at the time of handing a sheet material having images on both sides, and preventing the occurrence of trouble during conveyance.
