Summary:PURPOSE:To shorten an input time by executing a KATAKANA (square form of Japanese syllabary) conversion through a KATAKANA conversion request input part even when the independent word is not present in an independent word dictionary at the time of forming a sentence in which the KATAKANA and a HIRAGANA (Japanese syllabary) are mixed. CONSTITUTION:An input part 1 inputs a KANA (Japanese syllabary) character string, a storing part 2 stores an input character string, a Japanese processing part 6 converts the character string stored in the storing part 2 to a clause unit by the use of the independent word dictionary 7 and a KATAKANA registering dictionary 8, thereafter, according to the request of the KATAKANA conversion request input part 4, all or a part of the clause is converted to the KATAKANA character string to decide whether the KATAKANA string of the converted result is registered in the independent word dictionary 7 or the KATAKANA registering dictionary 8 and as the result of the decision, when it is not registered, the KATAKANA string is registered in the KATAKANA registering dictionary 8 as the independent word. Thereby, only the input of the HIRAGANA character string according to a simple and rapid key operation can be converted to the sentence including the KATAKANA notation.
