PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore a three-dimensional shape of a subject from an object image with shade information superimposed thereon by use of a projector/camera system under ambient light.SOLUTION: A projection-type three-dimensional restoration device using a projector for projecting an image and a camera for capturing the image includes: shade image generation means for generating a shade superimposition image by superimposing a shade image of an object generated based on the photometric stereo principle, from a three-dimensional shape of the object and direction information of a lighting unit illuminating the object, on an image of the object to be projected by the projector; projection control means for controlling luminance of the shade superimposition image to be projected so that the shade image cannot be visually recognized when the shade superimposition image is projected, to project the shade superimposition image by the projector; and three-dimensional shape restoration means for restoring the shade image by applying image processing on the image formed by the camera capturing the projected shade superimposition image, and restoring the three-dimensional shape of the object on the basis of the restored shade image.
