Summary:PURPOSE:To produce a highly oriented block-like graphite at a low cost by the simple method in the production of graphite utilized for radiation optical elements such as X-ray monochromators, neutron ray monochromators and neutron ray filters. CONSTITUTION:The electrostatic charges of plural polymer films as a raw material are removed. The films are laminated to each other, and subsequently pressed and baked in a thermal decomposition temperature region so that the polymer films are not fused to each other. Decomposition gases are smoothly released out through the spaces between the films to prevent the breakage of the films caused by the generated gases even when pressed and baked, and further to prevent the generation of strains in the films caused by the pressures of the gases.
