Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a handwritten character input area setting device which can improve its handling performance and operability when the handwritten characters are inputted through a handwritten character input device. CONSTITUTION:An icon group display area 12b and a data display area 12c are provided on a display screen 12a. Then the upper right part of a frame set this time is dragged with a pen 12d, (that is, the pen 12d is moved with a contact kept onto the screen 12a) under the control of a program set in a handwrite input frame setting mode where an executable state is secured when an icon 12 is pointed by the pen 12d. Thus the frame set for a character input area can be expanded or reduced as desired by a user.
