Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a highly concentrated nonaqueous surfactant with low irritativeness to the skin by neutralizing a specific polyoxyalkylene alkylsulfate with an alkanolamine in a nonaqueous system in the presence of a viscosity depressant. CONSTITUTION:A surfactant comprising an alkanolamine salt of a polyoxyalkylene alkysulfate as the effective active ingredient is obtained by neutralizing a polyoxyalkylene alkylsulfate represented by the general formula RO-(AO)n-SO3H (wherein R is a 6-20C straight chain or branched alkyl and/or alkenyl group; A is a 2-3C alkylene group and/or a group represented by the formula; and n is 1-20 on an average) with a substantially equimolar alkanolamine in a nonaquenous system in the presence of a viscosity depressant. Thus, the surfactant takes the form of a mixed solution consisting of 90-70wt.% of the effective ingredient and 10-30wt.% of the viscosity depressant in concentration.
