Summary:PURPOSE:To provide an optical pattern recognizing and sorting device which is never affected by the positional shift of an input pattern. CONSTITUTION:The light flux emitted from a laser 11 is turned into the light flux 12 having its diameter increased by a beam expander 13 and then made incident on an image display device 14. The flux 12 is transmitted through the device 14 displaying a pattern to be detected or each pattern group representing the recognized and sorted classes respectively. Then the image of the flux 12 undergoes the optical Fourier transformation through a Fourier transformation lens 21 and is made incident through an aperture 31 which is control-revolved by a rotary driver 32. Only a part of the Fourier transformation signal light is transmitted and condensed by a condenser lens 33, and the change of intensity of the light in one-dimensionally measured by a photodetector 34. The driver 32 is controlled by a computer 41 which undergoes the signal processing. The optical density distribution of an acquired pattern is measured as a light intensity distribution.
