Summary:PURPOSE:To independently process areas with a programmable configuration by not only regarding area signals as independent signals but employing them as a whole as a 'code'. CONSTITUTION:When an original 305 is set in a digitizer 108, a point (a) is designated and a point (b) is then designated, an area 302 with the two points (a), (b) read for their coordinates as a diagonal line is set. Then, the area code of the area is given, for example, by ten keys 303 by an operation unit 109, and the setting of the area is finished. An image editing process for the set area is then set by using an operation unit editing set key 304. The above operation is repeated to edit it. The number of the areas to be set is determined according to the number of bits of the area code. If it is, for example, n bits, the setting of 2 areas can be conducted.
