Summary:PURPOSE:To decide the size of the floating bodies and to count them automatically by photographing and converting an image of the underwater floating body into a binary signal, detecting the contours according to the binary coding output, and computing either of the area and peripheral length of the underwater floating body. CONSTITUTION:Fry put in an upper water tank 1 are transported to a lower water tank 2 from a pipe 3 through acryl 4 and when the fry are transported into the acryl 4, a line image sensor 7 photographs the image of the fry in the acryl 4 lighted with light from a light source 5. Then the image output is converted by the detecting device 8 into the binary signal to detect the edge of the image, thereby computing the peripheral length and area of the fry and the number of the fry. Consequently, the size of the underwater floating body can be detected and its quantity is also counted automatically.
