CONSTITUTION:A closed vessel 1 is separated into a sludge concentrating part 3 and a liq. collecting part 4, and a cylindrical filter element 11 with one end opened and the other end closed is arranged in the concentrating part 3. The open end is allowed to communicate with the liq. collecting part 4 in this sludge filtering and concentrating device. When the concd. sludge deposited on the outside of the element 11 is released and discharged, the supply of sludge is stopped, the upper part of the concentrating part 3 is opened to the atomosphere without discharging the unconcentrated sludge in the concentrating part 3, the filtrate is allowed to flow to the concentrating part 3 from the liq. collecting part 4 by the pressure difference produced to release the concd. sludge deposited on the element 11, and the released sludge is discharged to the outside of the vessel. As a result, the odd times conventionally needed are drastically reduced, and the filtration rate is increased.
