Generating an interface F between the isotropic phase IP and the liquid crystal phase SP in the smectic liquid crystal S can hold or move a substance with the interface F. 【課題】界面力を強くでき微細物質の精密な操作に利用可能であるスメクティック液晶を利用したマイクロマニピュレータを提供する。【解決手段】スメクティック液晶Sと、スメクティック液晶S中に、液体状態の等方相IPと液晶状態の液晶相SPとの界面Fを発生させる界面発生手段2と、を備えている。スメクティック液晶S中に等方相IPと液晶相SPとの界面Fを発生させれば、その界面Fによって物体を保持したり移動させたりすることが可能になる。しかも、界面力を大きくできるので、物体を保持したり移動させたりする能力を高くできる。【選択図】図1 |
