Summary:To provide a lithium ion secondary battery which can easily determine the presence/absence of a content of a metal impurity using an insulation inspection test in the lithium ion secondary battery having a groove in at least one of a positive electrode active material layer and a negative electrode active material layer.SOLUTION: A lithium ion secondary battery comprises an electrode body laminating a positive electrode that has a positive electrode active material layer and a positive electrode collector body, and a negative electrode having a negative electrode active material layer and a negative electrode collector body via a separator with a conductive layer. The positive electrode active material layer and the negative electrode active material layer are contacted to the separator, at least one of the positive electrode active material layer and the negative electrode active material layer includes a groove in a thickness direction.
