To provide an image reading device and an image reading method for an image reading device that can improve convenience for a user.SOLUTION: An image reading device comprises: a measuring unit that can measure the value of voltage supplied from a USB cable; a resistance for measurement; and a switching unit that can at least switch between a first state where the measuring unit and the resistance for measurement are connected to each other and a second state where the measuring unit and the resistance for measurement are not connected to each other. A control unit executes measuring processing of acquiring a measurement result related to power loss caused by the USB cable based on a first voltage value measured by the measuring unit in the first state and a second voltage value measured by the measuring unit in the second state.
