Summary:To provide a catalyst for oxidative coupling reaction of phthalate diester that can catalyze the oxidative coupling reaction for producing 2,3,3',4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid tetraester selectively from phthalate diester.SOLUTION: A catalyst for oxidative coupling reaction of phthalate diester comprises a palladium salt, a copper salt, and a 2-hydroxy pyridine represented by the formula (1).
