Summary:To provide an optical element that can enable a light beam with a wide angle of view to reach the pupil of an observer.SOLUTION: An optical element guides a light beam from an image display element to the pupil of an observer, and the optical element has a first deflection unit that makes the light beam incident on an inner face of the optical element; a second deflection unit that deflects the light beam totally reflected on the inner face multiple times to emit the light beam toward the pupil; and a semi-transmission and reflection unit that includes a first semi-transmission and reflection surface and a second semi-transmission and reflection surface, which are arranged in order from a side of the first deflection unit to a side of the second deflection unit.
