To provide an image forming device and the like that can make documents placed on a document tray handled easily.SOLUTION: In an image forming device equipped with a document reading device that automatically transports a document placed on a document tray and reads an image, the document reading device can shift, according to instructions received from an operation unit, to a state where a document is placed, to a state of having shifted from the state where the document is placed to a state where the document can be fed, and to a state of having shifted from the state where the document can be fed to a state where the document has been read and ejected. The document reading device has light emitting means that changes a light emitting state depending on the state where the document is placed, the state of having shifted from the state where the document is placed to the state where the document can be fed, and a state after having shifted from the state where the document can be fed to the state where the document has been read and ejected, and that blinks after the document has been read and ejected. The operation unit is provided so that the entire unit protrudes from the front of the device body.
