Summary:To provide an image reading device that can improve the accuracy of determining an open and closed state of a cover without using a sensor that detects the open and closed state of the cover.SOLUTION: An image reading device comprises: a cover part that is openable and closeable in a predetermined section of a conveyance path; a reading device having a light source, and a sensor that detects light from the light source radiated and reflected on a document to obtain a read value; and a control unit that controls the operation of a reading device. The control unit includes: an acquisition unit that acquires a read value in a main scanning direction with the light source being turned off as first data, and a read value in the main scanning direction with the light source being turned on as second data; a first calculation unit that calculates a first evaluation value based on a plurality of portions of the first data, and calculates a second evaluation value based on a plurality of portions of the second data; and a determination unit that determines an open and closed state of the cover part based on the first evaluation value, determines the open and closed state of the cover part based on the second evaluation value, when at least one of a determination result based on the first evaluation value and a determination result based on the second evaluation value indicates the open state, determines that the cover part is in the open state, and when both indicate the closed state, determines that the cover part is in the closed state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 【課題】カバーの開閉状態を検知するセンサを用いずに、カバーの開閉状態の判定精度を向上させることができる画像読取装置を提供する。【解決手段】搬送路の所定区間で開閉可能なカバー部と、光源と、光源から原稿に照射した光の反射光を検出して読取値を得るセンサと、を有する読取装置と、読取装置の動作を制御する制御装置と、を備え、制御装置は、光源を消灯させた主走査方向での読取値を第1データとし、光源を点灯させた主走査方向での読取値を第2データとして取得する取得部と、第1データの複数個所に基づいて第1評価値を算出し、第2データの複数個所に基づいて第2評価値を算出する第1算出部と、第1評価値に基づいてカバー部の開閉状態を判定し、第2評価値に基づいてカバー部の開閉状態を判定し、少なくとも一方が開状態を示す場合、カバー部は開状態であると判定し、双方が閉状態を示す場合、カバー部は閉状態と判定する判定部と、を備える。【選択図】図3
