Summary:To determine whether abnormal piston slap occurs, without unnecessarily increasing a calculation processing load of an electronic controller during operation of an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: A controller of an internal combustion engine is configured to: detect vibration occurring in a cylinder block including a plurality of cylinders via a sensor; determine whether noise contained in an output signal of the sensor processed by a filter passing through a certain one frequency band is equal to or larger than a threshold; and when the number of times the noise is equal to or larger than the threshold during a predetermined number of consecutive cycles of the same cylinder exceeds a determination value, determine that abnormal piston slap is occurring.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 【課題】内燃機関の運転中に、電子制御装置の演算処理負荷を徒に増大させることなく、異常なピストンスラップが発生していないかどうかを判定できるようにする。【解決手段】複数の気筒を内包するシリンダブロックに生じる振動をセンサを介して検出し、前記センサの出力信号をある一つの周波数帯を通過させるフィルタで処理したものに含まれるノイズが閾値以上に大きいか否かを判断し、同一の気筒の連続した所定数のサイクル中に前記ノイズが前記閾値以上に大きかった回数が判定値を上回ったならば、異常なピストンスラップが発生していると判定する内燃機関の制御装置を構成した。【選択図】図2
