Summary:To perform an appropriate operation according to the situation around a target object.SOLUTION: A driving assistance device comprises: a braking control unit that stops a vehicle when the degree of approach between a target object and the vehicle satisfies a first condition; a first preliminary operation control unit that performs a first preliminary operation when the degree of approach satisfies a second condition and when a space where the vehicle can travel is determined to be present in one of travel paths on the lateral sides of the target object at the time point when the second condition is satisfied or near the time point; and a second preliminary operation control unit that performs a second preliminary operation when the degree of approach satisfies a third condition and when no above-mentioned space is determined to be present at the time point when the third condition is satisfied.
