Summary:To provide a honeycomb filter configured so that pressure loss is low in the early stage of an exhaust gas treatment and at the time when particulates accumulate.SOLUTION: A honeycomb filter comprises porous bulkheads 13 partitioning and forming a plurality of cells as passages of exhaust gas, and further comprises exhaust gas introduction cells whose inlet-side end parts are opened and whose outlet-side end parts are sealed, and exhaust gas exhaust cells 11 whose outlet-side end parts are opened and whose inlet-side end parts are sealed, where cross sectional shapes of passages of the exhaust gas introduction cells and of the exhaust gas exhaust cells are same, in spaces from the inlet sides to the outlet sides. The exhaust gas introduction cells are arranged adjacently to the circumferences of the exhaust gas exhaust cells. The exhaust gas introduction cells are constituted of a first exhaust gas introduction cell 12 and a second exhaust gas introduction cell 14 which is larger in cross sectional areas of the passage than the first exhaust gas introduction cell. Cross sectional areas of the passages of the exhaust gas exhaust cells are equal to or larger than cross sectional areas of the passages of the second exhaust gas introduction cell.
