To provide an image forming apparatus that improves accuracy of detecting an amount of developer in a storage section.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has: an apparatus body; a process unit that includes a frame body constituting a storage section storing developer and is attached to the apparatus body; a detection unit that has a light emitting section emitting light and a light receiving section receiving the light emitted from the light emitting section and passing through the inside of the storage section, and outputs an output value according to an amount of developer stored in the storage section; and a display section that is in a first state when the output value output from the detection unit is equal to or less than a predetermined threshold, and in a second state different from the first state when the output value output from the detection unit is larger than the predetermined threshold.
