Summary:To efficiently detect a toner scattering near a developing area.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is provided with a photoreceptor drum 21 (image carrier), and a developing device 26 provided with a developing roller 26a (developer carrier) that stores toner therein, rotates in a predetermined rotation direction, and develops a latent image formed on the surface of the photoreceptor drum 21 in a developing area opposite to (or in contact with) the photoreceptor drum 21. The image forming apparatus is further provided with a detection device 40 that detects scattered toner near the developing area and at the ends in a width direction orthogonal to the rotation direction of the developing roller 26a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】現像領域の近傍で飛散するトナーを効率的に検知する。【解決手段】感光体ドラム21(像担持体)と、内部にトナーが収容されて所定の回転方向に回転して感光体ドラム21に対向(又は、接触)する現像領域で感光体ドラム21の表面に形成される潜像を現像する現像ローラ26a(現像剤担持体)を具備した現像装置26と、が設けられている。また、現像領域の近傍であって現像ローラ26aの回転方向に直交する幅方向の端部で、飛散したトナーを検知する検知装置40がさらに設けられている。【選択図】図4
