To provide an illumination system capable of adjusting the chromaticity of output light and capable of achieving output light that has a high general color rendering index Ra, and an illumination method.SOLUTION: A control unit included in the illumination system achieves output light that has the chromaticity values in the first region of a triangle whose vertices are the three closest points to the blackbody locus among the four points by emitting from 3 out of the 4 light sources corresponding to the 3 vertices of the first region and achieves output light that has chromaticity values in the second triangular area excluding the first area from the rectangular area by emitting 3 of the 4 light sources corresponding to the 3 vertices of the second region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 【課題】高い平均演色評価数Ｒａを有する出力光を実現することができる、出力光の色度の調整が可能な照明システム及び照明方法を提供する。【解決手段】照明システムが備える制御部は、４つの点のうち黒体軌跡までの距離が近い上位３つの点を頂点とする三角形の第１領域内の色度値を有する出力光を、４つの光源のうち第１領域の３つの頂点に対応する３つの光源を発光させることによって実現し、四角形の領域から第１領域を除いた三角形の第２領域内の色度値を有する出力光を、４つの光源のうち第２領域の３つの頂点に対応する３つの光源を発光させることによって実現する。【選択図】図２
