Summary:To reduce the size of a light emission device in comparison to a case where an electrode unit is arranged in the longitudinal direction of the light emission device.SOLUTION: A light emission device comprises: a substrate; a light emission unit which is made of a plurality of light emission elements; a transfer unit which outputs a signal with which the light emission states of the light emission elements sequentially propagate; and electrode units for inputting/outputting signals for driving the transfer unit. The substrate is in a rectangular shape having the long sides and the short sides and the electrode units are arranged along the short sides of the substrate with the transfer unit held therebetween. The electrode units each have a transfer signal electrode applied with a transfer signal for transferring the light emission states of the light emission elements in the control order, and a power source electrode which applies a power source potential and a reference potential to the transfer unit.
