Summary: | To provide a flexible organic electroluminescent element having higher characteristics and lower cost, in particular, an organic electroluminescent element allowing for obtaining excellent luminescence and being excellent in atmospheric stability.SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element having at least a pair of electrodes and organic layers therebetween, in particular, includes: a cathode of the pair of electrodes being a layer containing magnesium and silver and/or aluminum, whose volume ratio of magnesium is 2% or more and 30% or less, and whose average thickness is 40nm or less; and, adjacent to the cathode, an organic electron injection layer containing an organic material capable of coordination-bonding to a metal atom.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
