Summary:To provide an air conditioner capable of reducing an installation cost of a dedicated communication cable upon centrally managing air conditioners, and capable of reducing a communication load required for data communication related to air conditioners in an existing communication network.SOLUTION: A communication adapter connected to an indoor unit in an air conditioner has a communication unit, a determination unit, and a communication control unit. The communication unit communicates data with an air conditioning control device that centrally controls a plurality of air conditioners. The determination unit determines whether or not to encrypt and communicate data to be transmitted.
