To provide a cutting insert which hardly interferes with other tools, and can configure a lathe tool excellent in rigidity.SOLUTION: A cutting insert 10 comprises image symmetric property about a second symmetry plane M2 including a center axis O of a fitting hole 19. A peripheral side face 13 comprises; a first blade part 21; a second blade part 22 which is image symmetric to the first blade part 21; a base end part 30 at an opposite side of tip end parts (21, 22) where the first blade part 21 and the second blade part 22 are provided; a third flat plane 33 continuous to a first rake face 21R; a first flat plane 31 which couples the third flat plane 33 and one end 30A of the base end part 30; and the second and fourth flat planes 32, 34 which are image symmetric to the first and third flat planes 31, 33 respectively.
