Summary:To provide an illumination device and a display device that suppress the occurrence of brightness unevenness.SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal display device, a backlight device (illumination device) 12 includes: a plurality of LEDs (light sources) 13 arranged in a row; a light guide plate 15 including at least a light entering end face 15A having a plate shape, the light entering end face including an outer peripheral edge face where light emitted from the plurality of LEDs 13 enters, and an end face opposite-to-incident light face 15D disposed at an opposite side to the light entering end face 15A, wherein one plate face serves as a light emission plate face from which light emits; and a light refracting portion 26, for reflecting incident light, comprising a plurality of unit light refracting portions 26A arranged side by side on the light entering end face 15A along an arrangement direction of the plurality of LEDs 13.
