To provide an HMD (Head Mounted Display) enabling color tone of an output video to be constant, by considering change in color due to not only the influence of external light and the influence of the inside of a device but also the influence of difference in emission intensity in each of RGB wavelength ranges occurring when changing brightness according to external light brightness, and to provide a method for controlling the HMD.SOLUTION: A head mounted display having a control device and a display device is provided. The display device includes: a display unit which has a light source, outputs the image light and displays an image; a driving unit which outputs a video signal to the display unit and drives the light source; and a light detection unit detecting the eyeball reflected light which is reflected light of the image light from the eyeball of the user.
