Summary: | To provide an image display device that can expand a display viewing angle area while preventing color unevenness with a simple configuration to display a larger amount of information.SOLUTION: An image display device 10 comprises: an image forming unit 13 that has a plurality of pixels and emits rays of image light from the pixels; an optical system 12 that converts the rays of image light having respective image heights emitted from the image forming unit into rays of parallel light having an angle of view; a light guide plate 11 that makes the rays of image light converted by the optical system incident thereon, causes the light to propagate therein, and emits the light to the outside; a first diffraction grating 14 that is disposed on the light guide plate, and diffracts and reflects the rays of image light made incident on the light guide plate to cause the light to propagate inside the light guide plate; and a second diffraction grating 15 that is disposed on the light guide plate, and diffracts and reflects the rays of image light propagating inside the light guide plate to emit the light to the outside from the light guide plate.
