Summary:To provide a synthetic quartz powder which can suppress generation of air bubbles as compared with conventional ones when a quartz formed body is made from the synthetic quartz powder, and to provide such a quartz formed body.SOLUTION: A synthetic quartz powder comprises particles having a particle diameter of 400 to 610 μm present therein at a packing bulk density of 1.25 to 1.31 g/cm3. This synthetic quartz powder is produced in a production method comprising: a gel production step of reacting a raw material including tetramethyl orthosilicate as a main component with pure water to produce a silica gel; a powder production step of grinding the silica gel produced in the gel production step to produce a silica gel powder; a slurry production step of producing slurry including the silica gel powder produced in the powder production step suspended in ammonia water; a separation step of separating the ammonia water from the slurry produced in the slurry production step to obtain the silica gel powder; and a firing step of firing the silica gel powder obtained with the separation step at 1000°C or more to produce a quartz powder.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】従来よりも、石英成型体としたときの気泡の発生を抑えられる合成石英粉およびそのような石英成型体を提供する。【解決手段】合成石英粉は、粒径400~610μmの粒子が、充填嵩密度1.25~1.31g/cm3で存在してなる。この合成石英粉は、オルトケイ酸テトラメチルを主成分とする原料と純水とを反応させることによりシリカゲルを生成するゲル生成手順と、ゲル生成手順にて生成されたシリカゲルを粉砕することによりシリカゲル粉末を生成する粉末生成手順と、粉末生成手順にて生成されたシリカゲル粉末をアンモニア水に懸濁させてなるスラリーを生成するスラリー生成手順と、スラリー生成手順にて生成されたスラリーからアンモニア水を分離してシリカゲル粉末を得る分離手順と、分離手順により得られたシリカゲル粉末を1000℃以上で焼成することにより石英粉を生成する焼成手順と、を備える製造方法にて製造される。【選択図】図1
