Summary:To provide an optical film virtually free of defects due to the incorrect alignment of a liquid crystal layer.SOLUTION: A laminate (8) having a protective film (2) peelably adhered to the first principal surface of a long film base material (1) is conveyed by rolls to a peeling unit (10) along the longitudinal direction and the protective film is peeled off from the first principal surface of the film base material at the peeling unit. While the film base material after the protective film is peeled off is conveyed from the peeling unit to a coating unit (30), rolls do not contact the widthwise middle part of the first principal surface of the film base material and a film presser mechanism (15) contacts both widthwise edges of the first principal surface of the film base material at least once.
