Summary:To reconfigure a photoacoustic image excellent especially in image quality on a region of interest quickly.SOLUTION: An image forming method for forming a photoacoustic image on the basis of signal data on an acoustic wave obtained by measuring a predetermined part to be examined includes steps for: reconfiguring a temporary measurement image consisting of the photoacoustic image on the basis of the signal data; receiving the designation of a partial region of interest in the temporary measurement image; sequentially reconfiguring the image of the region of interest consisting of the photoacoustic image on the basis of a changed acoustic velocity parameter while changing an acoustic velocity parameter in the region of interest; determining an appropriate value of the acoustic velocity parameter on the basis of the image of the region of interest; and reconfiguring a photoacoustic image with a wider region than the region of interest on the basis of the appropriate value of the acoustic velocity parameter.
