To provide a column backing metal positioning device which can perform a column backing metal positioning work with use of a short-sized column correctly and with good efficiency.SOLUTION: A column backing metal positioning device comprises: a base 3; a pair of slide tables 7L, 7R which slide in a first direction X, and approach and separate from each other; a pair of struts 9, 10 which are provided on the slide tables 7L, 7R, and can adjust an interval D in a second direction Y; a positioning ruler 11 which is provided for the struts 9, 10, sets a center position O of a column 103, and thereafter, performs positioning of a fitting position P of a backing metal 107 at a predetermined amount S apart; a pair of clip blocks 13, 14 which are provided on the base 3, and sandwich and hold the column 103 at the center position O; and a support face A which so supports the set column 103 as to be movable in the first direction X and the second direction Y.
