To provide a magnetic tape device capable of efficiently preventing deviation in a width direction from a normal travel position of a magnetic tape, an operation method for the magnetic tape device, and the magnetic tape.SOLUTION: A magnetic tape device comprises: a sending-out head and a rewinding head as magnetic heads; and a guide member. The sending-out head and the rewinding head have magnetic elements acting on a magnetic layer formed on a front surface of the magnetic tape.
