To easily perform troubleshooting processing while arranging a large-size display unit in front of an image forming apparatus main body to increase operability.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has one or more opening and closing units for troubleshooting, and comprises: a trouble detection unit that detects a trouble occurring in the apparatus; a display panel unit 52 that is arranged on a front face or a side face of the apparatus and has a display area 60 that can be enlarged and reduced; and a display area size changing unit that changes the size of the display area 60. The details displayed on the display panel unit 52 include image information on the troubleshooting.
