To provide an operating device and an operating method, which are capable of culturing, manipulating, and analyzing minute samples, such as cells and microorganisms, on a large scale and efficiently.SOLUTION: The operating device 1 to which the present invention is applied comprises: a stage unit 2 on which a predetermined cell incubator is placed; and a probe array unit 3 having a plurality of probes. The probe array unit 3 includes a first probe array 5 and a second probe array 6. The first probe array 5 is composed of a plurality of probes 50 arranged side by side at a constant pitch in the X-axis direction. The second probe array 6 is composed of a plurality of probes 60 arranged side by side at a constant pitch in the Y-axis direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】細胞や微生物等の微小な試料を、大規模かつ効率よく培養、操作、及び分析が可能な操作装置及び操作方法を提供する。【解決手段】本発明を適用した操作装置１は、所定の細胞培養器が載置されるステージ部２と、複数のプローブを有するプローブアレイ部３を備えている。また、プローブアレイ部３は、第１のプローブアレイ５と、第２のプローブアレイ６を有している。また、第１のプローブアレイ５は、Ｘ軸方向に沿って、一定のピッチで並べて配置された複数のプローブ５０で構成されている。また、第２のプローブアレイ６は、Ｙ軸方向に沿って、一定のピッチで並べて配置された複数のプローブ６０で構成されている。【選択図】図１
