To provide an apparatus and a method for easily generating a high-quality three-dimensional avatar based on captured image data.SOLUTION: A three-dimensional avatar generating apparatus includes: an element generating unit 1 for generating a general-purpose element; a shape information generating unit 2 for generating three-dimensional surface shape information of an object based on imaging data of an object such as a person as an object for use in generation of a three-dimensional avatar; a two-dimensional image generating unit 3 for converting the three-dimensional surface shape information into a two-dimensional image; a feature point extracting unit 4 for extracting a feature point of the two-dimensional image; a feature point adding unit 5 for adding the extracted feature point to the three-dimensional surface shape information; a skeletal structure corresponding relation discriminating unit 6 for discriminating a corresponding relation with a skeletal structure of the general-purpose element with respect to the feature point added onto the three-dimensional surface shape information; a skeletal structure adjusting unit 7 for adjusting three-dimensional distribution of the skeletal structure of the general-purpose element so that the three-dimensional distribution should be matched with that of the feature point; and a surface adjusting unit 8 for adjusting a surface shape of the general-purpose element so that the surface shape should be matched with that of the object surface included in the three-dimensional shape information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】撮像画像データに基づく高品質な３次元アバターを容易に生成する装置及び方法を提供する。【解決手段】３次元アバター生成装置において、汎用素体を生成する素体生成部１と、３次元アバターの生成対象となる人物等の対象物の撮像データに基づき対象物の３次元の表面形状情報を生成する形状情報生成部２と、３次元の表面形状情報を２次元画像に変換する２次元画像生成部３と、２次元画像の特徴点抽出を行う特徴点抽出部４と、抽出した特徴点を３次元の表面形状情報上に付加する特徴点付加部５と、３次元の表面形状情報上に付加された特徴点について汎用素体の骨格構造との対応関係を判別する骨格対応関係判別部６と、当該特徴点の３次元分布に適合するよう汎用素体の骨格構造の３次元分布を調整する骨格調整部７と、３次元の形状情報に含まれる対象物表面の３次元形状に適合するよう汎用素体の表面形状を調整する表面調整部８と、を備える。【選択図】図１
