To provide a communication device for enabling a consumer and a business operator to appropriately obtain a use state of a fluid while suppressing an increase of power consumption and a communication amount in the communication device, and also to provide a meter reading system including the same.SOLUTION: A communication device 20 includes a control section. The control section performs: acquiring a measurement value at a predetermined meter reading frequency from a meter 10 for measuring a flow rate of a fluid consumed by a consumer, so as to read the meter (step S1); and obtaining a use amount of a fluid based on a measurement value acquired by meter reading (step S2). The control section adjusts a meter reading frequency of the meter in response to a use amount of a fluid for each meter reading (step S3).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6 【課題】本発明は、通信装置の消費電力や通信量の増大を抑えつつ、需要家や事業者がより適切に流体の使用状況を把握できる通信装置、及びそれを備えた検針システムを提供する。【解決手段】通信装置２０は、制御部を備える。制御部は、需要家が消費した流体の流量を計測するメータ１０から所定の検針頻度で計測値を取得してメータの検針を行い（ステップＳ１）、検針で取得した計測値に基づいて流体の使用量を求める（ステップＳ２）。制御部は、検針ごとの流体の使用量に応じて、メータの検針頻度を調整する（ステップＳ３）。【選択図】図６
