Summary:To provide a membrane electrode assembly for a fuel battery cell capable of suppressing reduction in power generation performance of a fuel battery cell which is caused by freezing of generated water below a freezing point.SOLUTION: A membrane electrode assembly 4 for a fuel battery cell 1 is provided, the membrane electrode assembly 4 having: an electrolyte membrane 5; and an anode catalyst layer 6A and a cathode catalyst layer 6B bonded so as to sandwich both surfaces of the electrolyte membrane 5. A thickness of the cathode catalyst layer 6B is larger than that of the anode catalyst layer 6A. The anode catalyst layer 6A and the cathode catalyst layer 6B contain carbon particles. When the thickness of the anode catalyst layer 6A is defined as A μm and the thickness of the cathode catalyst layer 6B is defined as B μm, and a total surface area of the carbon particles contained per unit area of the anode catalyst layer 6A is defined as a m2/cm2 and a total surface area of the carbon particles contained per unit area of the cathode catalyst layer 6B is defined as b m2/cm2, a relation of (B2/A2)<(b/a) is satisfied.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 【課題】氷点下で、生成水が凍結することに起因した、燃料電池セルの発電性能の低下を抑えることができる燃料電池セル用の膜電極接合体を提供する。【解決手段】本発明に係る膜電極接合体4は、電解質膜5と、電解質膜5の両面を挟むように接合されたアノード触媒層6Aおよびカソード触媒層6Bを有する、燃料電池セル1用の膜電極接合体4であって、カソード触媒層6Bの厚みは、アノード触媒層6Aの厚みよりも大きく、アノード触媒層6Aおよびカソード触媒層6Bは、カーボン粒子を含有しており、アノード触媒層6Aの厚みをAμm、カソード触媒層6Bの厚みをBμm、アノード触媒層6Aの単位面積あたりに含有されている前記カーボン粒子の総表面積をam2/cm2、カソード触媒層6Bの単位面積あたりに含有されている前記カーボン粒子の総表面積をbm2/cm2とした場合、(B2/A2)<(b/a)の関係を満たす。【選択図】図2
