Summary:To provide a spark plug for an internal combustion engine, in which a core material is easily prevented from being exposed.SOLUTION: A spark plug 1 for an internal combustion engine has: a cylindrical insulator 3; a center electrode 4 having a tip projected portion 41; a cylindrical housing 2; and a plug cover 5 provided to cover a sub combustion chamber 50. The plug cover 5 comprises an injection nozzle 51 causing the sub combustion chamber 50 to communicate with the outside. The center electrode 4 has a base material 42 and a core material 6 arranged in the base material 42 and having a thermal conductivity larger than that of the base material 42. The core material 6 has a large-diameter portion 61 and a small-diameter portion 62 formed to be continuous with a tip side of the large-diameter portion. The small-diameter portion 62 has a small-diameter columnar portion 621 having a diameter smaller than that of the larger-diameter portion 61, and having a constant diameter at least in a portion in an axial direction Z.
