To provide a grip for a surgical instrument which enables a user to confirm the orientation of a function part existing at the distal end of a surgical instrument, without directly viewing the function part existing at the distal end of the surgical instrument.SOLUTION: The inventive grip for a surgical instrument is at least partially made of a bar of a polygonal prismatic columnar shape and has on its outer surface a convex or a concave which allows a user to confirm the orientation of a function part existing at the distal end of the surgical instrument. The inventive surgical instrument comprises a function part having a surgical function, a handle combined to the function part, and a grip combined with the proximal end of the handle.
