To provide an image forming apparatus that can prevent the occurrence of overshoot when increasing the temperature of a fixing member having a small heat capacity at a high speed.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus starts preliminary rotation of a fixing device with a user operation for an operation panel as an impetus, and when subsequently receiving a print command from a user, estimates the rate of temperature increase in increasing the temperature of a fixing belt to a printing preset temperature from the surface temperature of a heating roller and thereby estimates a printing wait time from the start of temperature increase until the temperature of the fixing belt reaches the printing preset temperature. The image forming apparatus performs image formation and paper feed in accordance with the printing wait time to cause a recording sheet to enter a fixing nip in accordance with the timing at which the temperature of the fixing belt reaches the printing preset temperature and prevent overshoot of the temperature of the fixing belt.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 【課題】熱容量の小さい定着部材を高速に昇温させる場合におけるオーバーシュートの発生を防止することができる画像形成装置の提供。【解決手段】操作パネルに対するユーザー操作を契機として定着装置の予備回転を開始した後、ユーザーから印字命令を受け付けると、定着ベルトを印字設定温度へ昇温する際の昇温速度を加熱ローラーの表面温度から推定することによって、昇温開始後、定着ベルトが印字設定温度に到達するまでの印字ウェイト時間を推定する。この印字ウェイト時間に合わせて、作像や給紙などを行うことによって、定着ベルトが印字設定温度に到達するタイミングに合わせて記録シートを定着ニップに突入させ、定着ベルト温度のオーバーシュートを抑制する。【選択図】図７
