Summary:To improve mountability to a vehicle.SOLUTION: A vehicle drive unit comprises a planetary gear mechanism 6 and a first clutch C1. The first clutch C1 has a clutch sleeve 10 which can switch an engagement state that either of a sun gear S and a ring gear R, and a carrier CR are integrally and rotatably connected to each other, and a release state that the connection is released, a piston 14 which can slide in an axial direction by operational hydraulic pressure, and can be pressed so as to be switchable between the engagement state and the release state of the clutch sleeve 10, and a return spring 15 arranged between the carrier CR and the clutch sleeve 10, and energizing the clutch sleeve 10 in an axial direction reverse to a pressing direction by the piston 14.
