To provide a supply device and a control method for the same which can supply a billet to a heating device without damaging the billet.SOLUTION: A supply device is provided with gripping parts 3 that grip billets 2, a sensor part 4 that obtains position information about the billets 2 and a control part that controls an operation of the gripping parts 3 on the basis of the position information obtained by the sensor part 4. A plurality of heights of the billets 2 placed on a container C is obtained along a width direction (y) by the sensor part 4, and then the control part calculates a coordinate of the billet 2 on the basis of a diameter (d) of the billet 2 and an angle θ formed by a pair of inclined surfaces 6 which are previously-given to the control part and the position information obtained by the sensor part 4, and the gripping parts 3 grip the plurality of billets 2 arranged in an axial direction at one time on the basis of the coordinate and supplies the billets from the container C to the heating device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】ビレットを損傷させることなく加熱装置に供給できる供給装置およびその制御方法を提供する。【解決手段】ビレット２を把持する把持部３と、ビレット２の位置情報を取得するセンサ部４と、このセンサ部４で取得される位置情報に基づき把持部３の動作を制御する制御部とが供給装置に設置されていて、コンテナCに載置されているビレット２の高さを幅方向ｙに沿ってセンサ部４で複数取得した後に、制御部に予め与えられるビレット２の直径ｄおよび一対の傾斜面６のなす角θと、センサ部４で取得される情報とに基づき制御部がビレット２の座標を算出して、座標に基づき把持部３が軸方向に並べられる複数のビレット２を一度に把持してコンテナCから加熱装置に供給する。【選択図】図４
