To provide an image reading apparatus capable of generating data of images with a resolution desired by a user even when a transportation speed of an original is varied.SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus comprises: a transport device 20 that transports an original; and reading parts 31 and 32 for reading images on the original transported. An operation for reading an image when specific setting information is not input to a control device 60 of the image reading apparatus is defined as a first reading mode and an operation for reading an image when the specific setting information is input to the control device 60 is defined as a second reading mode.
