Summary:To provide a control method and control device for an engine capable of reliably improving heat efficiency.SOLUTION: In an engine provided with an intake valve 8, an exhaust valve 9, a fuel supply device 11, and a water injection device 12 that injects water into a combustion chamber 10, in addition to a combustion step of combusting a mixture of fuel and air supplied from the fuel supply device 11 in the combustion chamber 10, during the period from a valve closing timing EVC of the exhaust valve 9 to a valve closing timing IVC of the intake valve 8, a water injection step of injecting water from the water injection device 12 into the combustion chamber 10 is executed.
