Summary:To provide a surface-modified perfluorinated polymer electrolyte membrane with improved fuel-blocking properties without compromising proton conductivity or mechanical strength of base material.SOLUTION: The polymer electrolyte membrane is characterized by selective chemical bonding of a polymerized product of fluorostyrene to a tertiary carbon position on a surface of base material, a perfluorinated polymer electrolyte membrane with an ionic group. The polymerized product of fluorostyrene is produced by introducing fluorostyrene by chemical initiator graft polymerization. The polymer electrolyte membrane is used as a membrane electrode junction for a polymer electrolyte membrane of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】 基材のプロトン伝導性や機械的強度を損なうことなく、かつ、燃料遮断性を向上させた表面改質パーフルオロ系高分子電解質膜の提供。【解決手段】 本発明の高分子電解質膜は、基材であるイオン性基を有するパーフルオロ系高分子電解質膜の表面の第三級カーボンの位置に、フルオロスチレンの重合物が選択的に化学結合したことを特徴とする。前記フルオロスチレンの重合物は、フルオロスチレンを化学開始剤グラフト重合により導入して製造する。前記高分子電解質膜は、膜電極接合体として固体高分子形燃料電池の高分子電解質膜に用いる。【選択図】 なし
