Summary:To provide a polyvinyl acetal resin that has less fine undissolved matter when dissolved in an organic solvent, can improve productivity when used particularly as a binder for ceramic green sheets, can obtain ceramic green sheets excellent in toughness, and can produce a multilayer ceramic capacitor excellent in reliability.SOLUTION: A polyvinyl acetal resin in which a peak wave number A (cm-1) in a range of a wave number 3100 to 3700 (cm-1) in the IR absorption spectrum measured by the infrared spectrophotometer and a hydroxyl group amount (mol%) satisfy the relationships of the following formulas (1) and (2). [(3470-A)/hydroxyl group amount]≤5.5 (1) and (3470-A)≤185 (2) A: a wave number on a lower wave number side than 3470 and showing a transmittance a(%) satisfying [100-(100-X)/2]SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】有機溶剤に溶解した場合に微細な未溶解物が少なく、特にセラミックグリーンシート用のバインダーとして用いた際に生産性を向上させることができ、また、強靭性に優れるセラミックグリーンシートを得ることができ、信頼性に優れた積層セラミックコンデンサを作製可能なポリビニルアセタール樹脂を提供する。【解決手段】赤外分光光度計により測定したIR吸収スペクトルにおいて、波数3100〜3700cm−1の範囲内におけるピーク波数A(cm−1)、及び、水酸基量(モル%)が下記式(1)及び(2)の関係を満たす、ポリビニルアセタール樹脂。[(3470−A)/水酸基量]≦5.5 (1)(3470−A)≦185 (2)A:3470よりも低波数側であって、最小透過率をX(%)としたとき、[100−(100−X)/2]を満たす透過率a(%)を示す波数【選択図】なし
