Summary:To provide a tape feeder capable of accurate feed control of a carrier tape with a simple structure, and a component mounting method.SOLUTION: A tape feeder includes: a main sprocket 43 which positions a component in a component storage part provided in a carrier tape 17 at a component supply port 16K by engaging outer periphery teeth 43T with feed holes provided in the carrier tape 17 and feeding the carrier tape 17; and a sub sprocket 42 which delivers the carrier tape 17 to the main sprocket 43 via a peeling member 33 peeling a top tape attached to the carrier tape 17 by engaging the outer periphery teeth with the feed holes provided in the feeding the carrier tape 17 and feeding the carrier tape 17.
